May Update
Garlic Fest is rescheduled, we have a takeover guest this week, new stickers! New upcoming events!
Good evening! I’m keeping it brief this month because I wanted to get this out in time to share that an event I was supposed to do on Sunday is postponed and a few other time-sensitive things.
We have an account takeover this week! This was scheduled a good long time ago, and I’m happy to report this one is pretty special: it’s the New Jersey Historical Commission! This week on our account, they’ll be sharing images of New Jersey political buttons pulled from historic collections, along with interesting facts about them. Here’s the first post:
Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see the rest of their posts this week.
Nice things said about us recently!
Thank you to Kyle Nardine for this feature on Jersey Collective in Twenty Regular!
Upcoming Events
Come say hello!
Denville Garlic Fest
*RESCHEDULED DATE*
Sunday, June 9 from 12:00-6:00 PM
Todd Johnson Field: 102 Riverside Drive, Denville, NJ
This is a ticketed event: tickets are $10 online or at the event. You can also bring new toothpaste, mouthwash, or a toothbrush kit to benefit the Denville Food Pantry for a $5 discount. Get tickets here.
Morally Straight book event
Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 PM
Asbury Book Cooperative: 644A Cookman Ave, Asbury Park, NJ
I was very flattered to be asked to be Mike de Socio’s conversation partner for his Asbury Park book tour stop for his forthcoming book Morally Straight: How the Fight for LGBTQ+ Inclusion Changed the Boy Scouts—and America. I can’t wait to ask him a bunch of questions about his book, and about growing up in Monmouth County.
Rad Shirts Underground Pop-Up Series
Thursday, August 22 from 5:00-10:00 PM
23 Taylor Ave in Manasquan, NJ
Come shop Jersey Collective goods alongside Rad Shirts’ clothing, art, vintage, and more. This event is ASL (American Sign Language) accessible!
Can’t make it to a market? Shop our online souvenir shop! New Jersey Fan Club is also available wherever books are sold—if your favorite local shop doesn’t have it, ask them to order it!
Sticker Club
So, surprise, we are already ready for S3! I had to scramble to get it together because I have very little S2 stickers left and I wanted to have enough for the event that was supposed to be on Sunday, so I am going to hit you with a surprise reveal VERY SOON!
Shop + Stockist Update
While supplies last, you can purchase a deck of New Jersey Go Fish! at SMUSH Gallery in Jersey City!
I ordered two new stickers featuring art from New Jersey Go Fish!: the New Jersey Statehouse and a tollbooth. They’re available now in our webstore!
New Jersey Round-Up
On May 18th, the Greetings from the Garden State podcast (listen to my interview episode here!) is hosting Jersey Fest at White Eagle Hall, a show featuring five New Jersey-based bands and beers from different breweries in the state. A gift basket of Jersey Collective goods will be raffled off at the event!
Journalists Brian Donohue and Mark Bonamo have launched a new podcast called the Jersey Angle.
I mentioned Kyle Nardine’s new website Twenty Regular above, and I’m doing so again here because he also wrote a great feature on Courtney Preiss and her novel. I’m looking forward to reading more interviews with Jersey writers!
Sam Grinberg, who contributed a sticker for our Sticker Club Series 1, has a new comic available for preorder. It takes place in a suburban shopping mall, which is very Jersey!
NJ.com is hosting a pizza festival at Fort Monmouth in June that promises to be a good time.
Opportunities for NJ writers and artists
New Jersey Monthly’s annual cover image contest is going on now. There is a $15 per photo entry fee, and there is no fee for student entries.
Middlesex County is accepting submissions for its annual photography contest until June 11.
On Thursday, May 23 from 4-5:30, you can volunteer to help paint the boardwalk beach lockers in Asbury Park.
Former takeover guest Ratna Gandhe is teaching an embroidery workshop this weekend in Jersey City.
This section features links to things we think our community will be interested in, that have strong New Jersey ties, and that have as few barriers for entry as possible (we aren’t fans of submission fees but will sometimes include opportunities with them if they are negligible or sliding scale or fund a non-profit organization). We do not run advertisements!
That’s it for now!
